Blue Water Drift Dives- Sharks in Hawaii

Scuba diving in Hawaii is an amazing adventure. Now take it up a few notches and try our Blue Water Drift Dives. We are the only dive operation doing this kind of diving here in Oahu. In water as deep as 400 feet we will gracefully do a drift dive from depths of 30 feet to 130 feet. Depending on the depth we plan for we can stay down for as long a 20 minutes to around 45 minutes. Our Blue Water Drift Dives are always a surprise. Anything can show and usually happens this way. sharks in HawaiiWe consistently see sharks on our Blue Water Drift dives, notably the Galapagos sharks and sandbar sharks. We have also had the privilege to dive with tiger sharks. A quick note, sharks in Hawaii are note aggressive towards divers unless provoked. We in no way provoke or intimidate the sharks and expect you all to adhere to the same standards. Just diving and taking pictures. These dives are excellent for underwater photographers to get those rare hard to shoot pictures of sharks. These dives are very rewarding. On some days we even see pods of dolphins swimming around checking us out as if we were lost. Dolphins routinely  are more curious with divers in these parts of the ocean than say the reef dives of 40 to 60 feet. Other types of interesting marine life in Hawaii you may see is the manta ray. Mantas are among the largest of fishes with reported to weight 3000 pounds with a 23 foot wing span. The Mantas we see are roughly 12-15 feet but nonetheless very cool to see. Yes we encounter the humpback whales in Hawaii during the whales season which is from January to May. We have drifted for more than 40 minutes with nothing but 2 huge humpback whales to the delight of the whole group. The blue water diving we do is in waters as deep as 300 feet. Of course we do not go deeper than 100 feet on these dives therefore proper buoyancy is extremely important. Once in the water here it is hard to take weights out and readjust.

How many dives will we do ?

This all depends on a group consensus. We can either to 2 dives or 1 long dive. We can do 1 dive to 100 feet for 20 minutes then finish up on a reef for the second dive OR just a long 50 foot Blue Water Drift Dive. Usually what we do is before the dive we will sit down and talk about what is best for the group.

NOTE- This dive is very unpredictable in terms of marine life expectancy. Sometimes WE HAVE had no shows on certain marine life. By joining this tour we expect you to be open minded and courteous about these kinds of situations. Oahu Diving has no way to control what and what does not show up for these types of dives. It is important to understand that refunds will not be honored in such rare cases. We will go over this with you again before the dive(s).

NOTE- These dives are conducted in favorable weather. In other words we do not do these dives daily. Dive boat used is a 8-man Zodiac type boat.
