Hawaii Diving Locations and Oahu Dive Sites

The 100 Foot Hole reef is a great dive that seldom gets any traffic or attention like the yo-257 wreck dive of Oahu. Getting there is by boat and usually takes approximately 15 minutes. The ride can be a little bumpy so if you are prone to sea sickness this might not be the scuba dive in Oahu trip for you .The location is just south west of Diamond Head in the area where the yo-257 is located.

Once out you will need a good brief on the diving location. Because of where this site is located, currents can be very strong. Use that mooring line when making your decent. Free decent will only complicate your dive!

The 100 Foot Hole is actually 85 feet deep. I am guessing someone found this location and just said, "Yea bra, it's about 100 foot down there." The dive itself is a large lava table that kind of resembles the rock formations of the southwest United Sates surrounded by beautiful white sand. The table top is roughly 70-75 foot deep. Heading over the sides is around 85 foot deep. The unique feature of this dive is a swim through that allows the diver to go underneath this table.

Be careful, big white tip reef sharks make this area their home. Once cleared to go you will be able to see the exit point as well. The top table area of this dive has beautiful hard corals and an abundance of sea life to go with it. Be nice , don't break any coral! 100 Foot Hole bottom times can vary. Most people like to dive this location after doing the YO-257 shipwreck. However doing this dive for the first dive of the day can also be a good idea. So bottom times can range from 20-30 minutes. Due to the location of this dive it is not uncommon to have tiger sharks cruising around. White tip reef sharks and other reef fish make their home here so the tigers love to snack on these guys. Divers are not on the list of delicacies for tiger sharks so I really wouldn't worry about it.

The 100 Foot Hole is a great all-around dive that caters to both the advanced diver and the novice deep diver. Like I always say , watch those gauges and get back on the line around 1000 PSI. Currents can drastically kick up during your dive so use that mooring line.
